Elida Camille Behar

Vogue Summer School Instructor

I have spent 30+ years in the retail industry as a merchandiser, first at Saks Fifth Avenue for my aspirational job, then at Daffy’s for my dream job.

I began teaching as an adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology/SUNY in 2009 and remained there until 2018. I taught a variety of courses, from retail math, inventory planning, buying, global merchandising; I have also taught high school level courses while at FIT. I taught in Hangzhou, China for four years at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU), and I taught luxury marketing and consumer behavior at the Laboratory of Innovative Merchandising (LIM) in New York City in the master’s program for two years.

I have been at Indiana University since 2018. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in June 2025. I am a recipient of the Mumford Excellence in Extraordinary Teaching Awards (2021). I am a First Year Seminar Fellow, currently serving on the Advisory Board. My undergraduate degree is in accounting from Fordham University, and I have a master’s degree in Global Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology/SUNY, 2016.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I am a member of two book clubs; one a neighborhood book club, the other a murder mystery book club at the Morgenstern Book Store.

I enjoy rollerblading in the IU football stadium parking lot, practicing yoga, or working on my 106-year-old house in Bloomington. I spend my summers and downtime in NJ, where I have my primary home.
