Vogue Summer School: Fashion Styling
Learn how fashion images are created, from styling and concept development to completing a professional photoshoot.
This course introduces pre-college students to the fundamentals of fashion styling and fashion photography, offering an inside look at how fashion images are created. Beginning with the process of fashion editing and content creation, you will learn how to develop visual concepts and translate creative ideas into a studio-based photoshoot.
Designed for students exploring college majors such as fashion styling, fashion photography, visual arts or fashion communications, this pre‑college course emphasizes creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning. Explore how cultural influences, key creatives and visual trends shape styling across the fashion industry, building practical skills and experience that support future study and college applications.

Sample Schedule
Day 1: Introduction
Begin with an overview of the stylist’s role and responsibilities within the fashion industry. Explore the styling process from concept to shoot and learn about different career paths including editorial, celebrity, personal and commercial styling.
Day 2: Fashion Influencers Through Time
Examine how influential figures have shaped fashion trends across eras. From early socialites to modern tastemakers, explore how cultural movements and editorial styling define the zeitgeist and influence both industry and society.
Day 3: Fashion Photography
Day 3 is dedicated to learning the fundamentals of fashion photography. Understand the stylist’s role on set and how to collaborate effectively with photographers and the broader creative team to bring a vision to life.
Day 4: Beauty, Hair and Makeup
Explore the essential role of beauty styling in fashion imagery. Learn how hair and makeup choices enhance a concept and contribute to a cohesive visual story. Analyze how stylists incorporate beauty elements into editorial shoots.
Day 5: Concepting a Story
Learn how to develop a compelling fashion story from initial concept to execution. Explore how stylists generate ideas, build narratives and create visually impactful shoots. Analyze editorial images and consider how broader cultural influences inform contemporary fashion storytelling.
Course Topics
Students will learn from fashion academics, industry experts and Vogue staff. They will also work in small teams to produce a portfolio of images.

Site Visits
Visits will include a combination of trips to major New York City art museums and galleries, as well as designers’ studios and other places related to fashion, including the esteemed Vogue HQ.

- Spring Studios
- The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Brooklyn Museum
- Museum of Arts and Design
- Flagship stores along the Garment District on Fifth Avenue
- Boutiques in fashion districts such as Williamsburg, Bushwick, Chelsea, East Village and Noho
- Designer studios and atelier
Guest Speakers
Students will hear firsthand from fashion industry experts and fashion business professionals about the topics that shape our understanding of the fashion, media and luxury lifestyle industries.
Guest speakers may include:
- Fashion stylists and photographers
- Fashion industry professionals in a variety of roles
- Fashion critics and journalists
- Museum curators and educators
Admissions
Vogue Summer School is open to high school students (grades 10-12 and Graduating Seniors based on the grade the student is entering in the Fall 2026 school year). Students must be 15 years old by the first day of their term. All students applying to Vogue Summer School for the first time are required to complete an online application. Returning students do not need to reapply. Our online application can be completed in a few basic steps. As students work through their application, they may save their progress and return to the application before final submission.

Residential Program
Students live in dorm-like facilities in Lower Manhattan.

A non-refundable initial payment of $1,500 is due within two weeks of receiving your acceptance letter in order to register for the program.
Students who enroll in multiple terms are eligible for a $500 discount on each term.
Refer a friend and you’ll both receive $250 off tuition. Both students must enroll and contact admissions at precollege@voguecollege.com for the discount to be applied.
Flexible payment plans are available to all families.
*Materials Fees cover activities, equipment, and other instructional materials. Program fees do not include health insurance. All students are required to have their own health insurance coverage.
