Why did you decide to enroll in Vogue Summer School?

I enrolled in Vogue Summer School primarily to meet new people and create friendships and connections with peers with similar interests.

Which course did you enroll in and why?

I enrolled in the Fashion Business course because I was interested in the marketing and legal aspects of fashion. I think the business side of fashion is often overlooked because it takes place behind the scenes and you typically only see the final product.

I felt that this course could also give me a better understanding of what I want to study and pursue as a career in the future.

What significance does studying in New York City hold for you, and what was the most interesting thing you learned or experienced during your time there?

Although I live in New York, taking this course helped me to understand truly how much opportunity there is in the city. I learned the importance of the strategies business owners use to become niche brands and how important it is to differentiate your business.

Describe your favorite day of the program. Where did you go and who did you meet?

My favorite day of the program was when our LLC (Living Learning Community) came together for the first time. It was fascinating to be in a room with a group of people from all around the world.

The activity for the day was to create a chant, but my group went above and beyond and created a dance along with our chant. That day was most memorable for me because I remember feeling so connected with my peers.

What was your day-to-day experience like?

Although I am a native New Yorker, my day-to-day experience was almost like a school day, but with so much more to look forward to!

Our days started with class or a site visit. Then after lunch, we’d attend a lecture by a professional from a leading fashion brand. These lectures were extremely helpful for gaining an understanding of what it’s truly like to work in the fashion industry.

How did your experience at Vogue Summer School influence your perspective on your future studies or career path?

My experience at Vogue Summer School influenced me to be more open to different experiences and meeting new people. I gained a broader understanding of fashion perspectives, not only from faculty and guest speakers, but my peers too.

Identifying my interest in marketing and fashion history through this program has helped me shape my future studies.

What is your advice for future Vogue Summer School students?

My advice for future Vogue Summer School students is to go into the program open-minded and ready to make friends as soon as you walk through the door. So many opportunities will be presented to you in this program, from learning new things to meeting new people. Everybody comes to the program with different experiences, but you’ll all have one thing in common: a passion for fashion.
