Macarena Valdés, originally from Chile and based in Melbourne for the past six years, didn’t hesitate to cross the world in pursuit of her creative instinct. She left her signature café in Australia behind for three months and traveled to Madrid to immerse herself in the Vogue Diploma in Fashion Styling and Production. What she found was more than a course—it was a personal and professional turning point.
“It was, without a doubt, the best experience of my life,” she says without hesitation. “I only wish it had lasted longer. I was left wanting more classes, more hands-on work, more workshops. I think a master’s wouldn’t be a bad idea at all (laughs).”

From entrepreneurship to creative rediscovery
As the founder of ALMA by Mane, a clothing and accessories brand she paused two years ago, Macarena had already proven her entrepreneurial spirit. In the meantime, she created “The Macarena”, a signature coffee shop in Melbourne, proving her creative energy knows no boundaries. But fashion remained in the background, waiting to be reignited.
“I knew I wanted to refine and expand that passion I have for creating, styling, and designing. And I was certain this diploma would give me the tools and knowledge to do just that.”
A transformative experience at Vogue College of Fashion
Her time at Vogue College of Fashion was, in her own words, both intense and enriching. From the moodboard workshop with José Juan and Paco—“essential for helping us define our style direction”—to the behind-the-scenes visit to the Museo del Traje with Carlos Puig, every moment left a lasting impression.
“I deeply admire professor Debbie Smith and her Lookbook class. Her ability to identify every photographer in a panel of more than 50 images left me speechless.”
Her connection with Condé Nast professionals was also key: “Each expert contributed exactly what was needed to make the course feel complete. Always willing to share their insight and experience. A perfect 10 out of 10.”
From the classroom to the campaign set
Today, Macarena is putting everything she learned into practice, working as a stylist and creative producer for Australian brands such as RAW by RAW. She collaborates with two different creative teams and sees how every class, every tip, and every hands-on session translates into real results. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact of everything we learned.”
Here are two of her most recent styling projects. In one of them, Macarena decided to include two of her most cherished Vogue College of Fashion items: her planner and her iconic tote bag. The result? Pure visual storytelling—with a distinct Vogue touch.

A journey that’s only just beginning
What began as a three-month academic dream has become a new starting point. Macarena is now shaping her own creative brand and, with each new step, she’s rewriting her professional story with a more confident, global, and refined vision.
For those dreaming of turning their passion for fashion into a real career, her story is a reminder that bold decisions open the right doors.
