That was the case for Helena India. After studying audiovisual production and cinematography, she felt drawn to the editorial world. In the first edition of the Vogue Diploma in Fashion Photography, she found not just technical refinement and references, but a creative community that expanded both her visual and inner worlds.

Tell us about your background and studies

Since childhood, I loved making videos. I used to steal my dad’s camera—not knowing that would be my first step into the audiovisual world. I studied Audiovisual Production and later a diploma in Cinematography, but it was fashion that truly captured me. In fashion films and editorial photography, I found a way to tell stories in a single image. That’s why I chose to specialize with the Vogue Fashion Photography Diploma.

How did you discover us?

I was searching for courses in fashion photography or fashion films in Madrid but couldn’t find anything that felt right. I even looked at options in Paris. Just then, I discovered the first edition of the Vogue diploma. I followed my gut, let go of Paris, and chose Madrid—the city of tapas and charming plazas.

What did the diploma offer you?

It showed me that fashion photography is much more than what we see in ads or magazines. I discovered still life, editorial photography, iconic references, fanzines, moodboards… a whole universe that helped me build a strong and personal visual language. Nothing like Pinterest’s quick aesthetic fixes. Also, my classmates were amazing. Each had a unique, defined, and recognizable style. I learned so much from their perspectives and creative processes.

What did you like most about living in Madrid?

I’d already been living here for over a year. Madrid is beautiful, full of majestic buildings, cozy cafés, and constantly inspiring exhibitions. But let’s be honest: Madrid wouldn’t be Madrid without its tortilla pinchos and croquettes.

Share a memory you cherish

In a styling class with Jennifer, we were preparing outfits for a shoot. I had bought a gorgeous pink sequined top—very “me,” I admit—and showed it to her excitedly. She said, honestly, that she didn’t like it. Compared to the incredible showroom pieces, I got it. I put it away… but couldn’t resist. I wore it in the final shoot. I love that top.

Which professor or session stood out to you?

Debbie Smith. She taught us “Photography Masters” and oversaw our still-life shoot. Her energy was pure magic. Listening to her was mesmerizing.
In her first class, she hung stunning photos on the wall. We chose one and explained why. Some of us—myself included—ended up taking them home. I still have mine in my room.
I also want to highlight Jennifer Bauser for her styling vision; Davit Ruiz, Alexander Gross, and Flavio Orsolato for everything I learned in photography; and Nuala Phillips, who introduced us to trends, colorimetry, and morphology—always dressed in the best classroom looks.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

The photo shoots. From prep to shoot day, they were magical moments where each of us dived deep into our creative world.
Sometimes we worked with professional models and makeup artists; other times, we handled everything ourselves. The professors’ support was constant throughout the process.

If you could take another diploma, what would it be?

I already did! While studying photography, I was drawn to the Vogue Diploma in Creative Direction and Digital Art. I enrolled and loved it: I learned from Condé Nast pros like Ángel Perea, Fernando Vallespín, Cristina González, and Elena Calvo.
And yes, I had another class with Debbie… and took more photos to hang up!

Why would you recommend Vogue College of Fashion diplomas?

Because they awaken creativity and expand your perspective. It’s not just what you learn, it’s the whole experience: the professors, the spaces, the library…
The building is stunning, and the connection with instructors is so close. It’s a transformative journey.

Can you imagine learning from professionals who have worked on Vogue photo shoots?

The Vogue Diploma in Fashion Photography is a transformative experience that connects you with industry leaders, challenges your creativity, and sharpens your vision to thrive in the editorial world.
