From Barcelona to Madrid, Gabriela Martins has built a path defined by curiosity, ambition, and a deep passion for fashion. With a background in Marketing and Digital Communication and early experience in the technology sector, Gabriela made the conscious decision to pivot toward the industry she had always envisioned herself in.

Through the Master’s in Fashion and Beauty Business Management at Vogue College of Fashion, Gabriela embarked on a transformative journey—one that not only refined her professional profile but also helped her gain clarity about her future in the fashion world. Her story reflects a new generation of global, culturally aware talent ready to shape the industry with purpose and creativity.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background

I am 23 years old and originally from Brazil. I studied Marketing and Digital Communication in Barcelona, where I also gained my first professional experience, working for two years at a company in the engineering sector.

Although my professional background has been in the technology field, I have always had a strong passion for fashion. That is why I decided to pursue a Vogue Master’s program, with the goal of redirecting my career toward this industry.

Speaking three languages and living away from home has allowed me to connect with people from different cultures. I enjoy discovering new perspectives, continuously learning, and seeking opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.

How did you find out about us?

Vogue has always been one of my biggest references. I discovered the College through Instagram and also through a friend who had previously attended one of its summer programs. Her positive experience sparked my interest and encouraged me to learn more about the school and its offerings.

Why did you decide to study this Master’s program?

I decided to study this program because my passion for fashion has always been very strong. It all started with my mother—she is a lawyer, and I have always admired how she expressed her character, ambition, and personality through the way she dressed. From a young age, I understood that fashion is much more than clothing; it is a way to communicate, tell a story, and convey identity.

I am also fascinated by everything behind the scenes of the industry—the marketing, strategy, and business aspects that allow brands to connect with people. When I imagine my future, this is the only field I truly see myself working in and feeling fulfilled. That is why I saw this Master’s as the perfect opportunity to take my first step and build my path within the industry.

What was your experience like during the program?

My experience during the program was truly transformative. Beyond the technical knowledge expected from a Master’s, I went through an important process of personal and professional growth.

During the program, I had the opportunity to connect with very inspiring people, both classmates and professors, which greatly enriched my experience. It also helped me better understand what I truly want to do within the industry and the kind of environment where I feel I belong.

The hands-on experiences were definitely one of my favorite aspects, as they allowed us to apply what we learned and gain real insight into how the industry works. Everything I experienced at the College was very special, and I am sure I will carry those memories with me for a long time.

Which professor or session would you highlight? Why?

One of the professors who had the greatest impact on me was Patricia Sancho, currently CEO of ROKSANDA. During her sessions, she shared very valuable insights from her professional journey, giving us a realistic understanding of how the industry works.

What I appreciated most was her approachability—she communicated in a very honest and accessible way, always willing to share her experience and support us. It was clear that she is deeply committed to helping and inspiring the next generation.

In the same way, Beatriz Carranza also left a strong impression on me. Her classes on retail distribution and the world of wholesalers introduced me to an area of the industry I was not very familiar with.

What stood out was her teaching style—she consistently challenged us to question established ideas and think outside the box. She brought great energy and passion into her teaching, which was very inspiring. Her perspective on professional challenges motivated me to trust my own goals and continue exploring my path within the industry.

In terms of sessions, I would particularly highlight the workshops, visits, and shootings, which were some of the most creative and inspiring moments of the program.

What did you enjoy the most or remember most fondly?

I have very fond memories of experiences such as Madrid Fashion Week and the trip to Milan. These were unique moments that allowed us to experience the industry from the inside. Attending events, meeting professionals, and being part of it firsthand was incredible and, in my opinion, one of the aspects that makes studying at Vogue so special.

However, when I reflect on the entire year, what I cherish the most are the people I met during the program. I had the opportunity to be surrounded by very inspiring women and to build meaningful friendships that made the year even more special.

Coming from different countries and cultures made the experience even richer. We shared ideas, supported each other during projects, and celebrated each other’s achievements, creating a strong sense of community.

Beyond the academic learning, these human connections are what truly made the experience unforgettable. I feel very grateful to have shared this journey with them.

What was your experience with internships like? Where did you complete them?

I completed my internship at Condé Nast, within the commercial department, and it was an incredible experience. During this time, I had the opportunity to learn firsthand how a leading company in the media and fashion industry operates, while also participating in very interesting projects.

I would especially like to thank Laura Velasco, my mentor during the internship, who taught me many valuable skills and always provided support and trust, making the experience even more meaningful.

It was also very inspiring to see so many women in leadership positions within the company, while maintaining a close and collaborative environment. Everything I learned during this internship is something I will carry with me throughout my professional journey.

What do you think is the most important thing you learned for your future career?

I learned about different platforms, tools, and industry dynamics, as well as how brands operate and connect with their audiences.

I also understood the importance of strategy, creativity, and collaboration in such a dynamic environment as fashion and media. Beyond technical knowledge, the program gave me a much clearer vision of the industry and the opportunities within it.

All of this has prepared me to take my next professional steps with a stronger foundation and greater confidence in what I want to build.

Any additional comments or advice for someone starting in this industry?

It may sound cliché, but one of the most important pieces of advice I would give is to believe in yourself and be patient. There is often pressure to move quickly or compare yourself to others, but every journey is different.

There is a quote that has always inspired me: “If you didn’t make it in your 30s, you can make it in your 40s… there is always time. Have fun and enjoy life.” I believe this idea perfectly reflects the importance of trusting your own path.

Even when you doubt yourself or feel overwhelmed, it is important to remember that every experience adds value, and sometimes opportunities appear when you least expect them.

My advice would be to stay curious, keep learning, and focus on improving a little every day. Success is not about competing with others but about becoming a better version of yourself. Work with passion, but also with kindness toward yourself—without putting too much pressure on your shoulders. In the end, enjoying the journey is also part of success.
