Why did you decide to enrol in Vogue Summer School?

I chose to apply for Vogue Summer School because I wanted to gain a unique insight into the fashion industry. Not only this, but as an international student I wished to grow my independence and build connections with people who share the same passion as me.

Which course did you enrol in and why?

I enrolled in the Fashion Business course with Lilah Ramzi because the behind-the-scenes of the fashion industry has always interested me, specifically marketing. I also plan to study fashion business at university, so the class helped cement my choice.

What significance does studying in New York City hold for you, and what was the most interesting thing you learned or experienced during your time there?

As an international student, New York is seen as the fashion capital where you can truly immerse yourself in the hustle of New Yorkers’ lives and gain a unique insight into the industry. In class, I especially enjoyed learning about the history of fashion, as within the industry you must know your references.

Describe your favourite day of the programme. Where did you go, who did you meet?

My favourite day was when we went to Gap headquarters and met Zac Posen and saw all of the clothing archives. It was immensely interesting to hear about what happens behind the scenes of brands and to understand how they grow and evolve within the context of the time.

What was your day-to-day experience like?

Our day-to-day experience was the perfect composition of structure and new experiences. We headed to class every day at 9 where we typically had at least one lecture with Lilah. We would then have an insightful guest speaker such as Arie Kopelman, former president of Chanel. We then got breaks for lunch where we could hang out with peers and explore New York. Later we headed back to class for further lectures and sometimes, we would take class trips to places such as The Met. Once class was over, we had opportunities to spend time with friends, go to Broadway shows, and shop.

How did your experience at Vogue Summer School influence your perspective on your future studies or career path?

To gain such insight at a young age makes me feel prepared to go into the industry. I had not had the opportunity to learn about fashion in an educational setting previously, but always knew it was what I wanted to do. Vogue Summer School cemented my love for fashion and contributed to why I was accepted to study fashion business at my top-choice university.

What are you considering as a profession once you graduate?

I hope to go into a profession that aims to make fashion a more sustainable and accessible business and to create positive change in an industry that allows people to communicate with the world without saying a word.

Do you have any advice for future Vogue Summer School students?

You will only be young while studying fashion in New York once, so enjoy it! Ask the questions, say yes to opportunities, and soak in all the knowledge from the amazing people who will surround you.
